Deacon Larry Sorce
Permanent Deacon
I grew up on the West Side of Chicago near Oak Park. I am the oldest of the six children of Sam and Barbara Sorce. My mom’s dad, Edwin Hubert, was raised in this neighborhood and attended school at Notre Dame Academy. He and his family were French-speaking immigrants from Canada. My dad’s parents were both born in Italy. My wife Laura and I moved to this neighborhood in 1985 after she graduated from Mundelein College where we met. We have three children; Andrew (32), Anthony (31) and Angelo (28). I attended Quigley Preparatory Seminary North and Niles College of Loyola. I am currently employed as a Project Supervisor for an environmental testing company in Elmhurst, IL. I have been involved in church activities since my Catholic school days at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish. That involvement carried through my seminary days and throughout my adult life. For ten years I worked as a Youth Minister and Coordinator of Religious Education at several parishes. During that time, I also led Confirmation Retreats for the Catholic Youth Office (CYO) and served as an adjunct retreat director for Resurrection Center in Woodstock, IL. I have been involved in liturgy, music ministry and served as a catechist and later as the Director of Religious Education for Notre Dame Parish. For the last four and a half years, I have been studying at the Institute for Diaconal Studies at the University of St. Mary of the Lake Seminary. I was ordained by Bishop Robert Casey as a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of Chicago on September 26, 2020. Our Lady of the Holy Family Parish is my first assignment. I am looking forward to my new role in our parish ministry. This is a very exciting time to be part of our new parish and to face the new challenges in our Archdiocese.
