We Need Volunteers!
The Supper Ministry meets on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month in
the Rectory Kitchen to prepare meals which are brought to Pilsen’s “Love Fridge”
on Blue Island Avenue, south of 18th Street. We usually prepare forty-eight meals
during the cooking session which lasts about two hours.
The “Love Fridge” is a Chicago organization that places and maintains
approximately 30 refrigerators in various neighborhoods across the city. Each unit
consists of a refrigerator, enclosed shelving, and a roof. The group supplies some
of the food through their partnerships with the Greater Chicago Food Depository
and other assistance programs. Community members are free to either take food
or place food in accordance with their needs and abilities.
Currently the organizer, Chef Dan, sends an email to all people who have
indicated a willingness to participate on the Monday before each session. Since
too many cooks spoil the soup, we have space for five volunteers and the first five
people returning the email get those slots. Notice is sent out via email when those
slots are filled.
You do not need any special skills and the only thing you might want to bring is an
apron. We make it one of our goals to have fun and give everyone a chance to
serve our Lord and others in a very practical way.
